I'm not a fan of neither realistic animations nor Angelina Jolie! So this wasn't interesting at all! And I couldn't even watch the whole thing in my 17" monitor!

WASN'T SURE HOW I WOULD ENJOY THIS MOVIE GIVEN THE ANIMATIONS, BUT IT WAS A PLEASER. IT ACTUALLY APPEARED TO BE A REGULAR RECORDED FILM MOST OF THE TIME. THE STORY LINE WAS GOOD AND FOLLOWED THUR. IT WAS A GOOD FILM. I'M NOT INTO ANGELINA FOR THE WAYS SHE BEHAVES OUTSIDE OF HER FILMS. I MEAN GIVE AN AMERICAN KID A CHANCE FOR GOODNESS SAKE, BUT SHE ALWAYS PULLS OFF A GOOD MOVIE.

Starts off okay, but quickly becomes uninteresting. Except for Crispin Glover's role, nothing kept me from turning the film off.

I sort of expected quite a bit from this movie for some reason. I just got it in my mind that the 3D thing was going to make it awesome, but it only made it worse. I thought it wasn't really needed at all. I mean the most you get is someone swinging a punch that looks like its coming at you. The only thing it did really was hurt my eyes. And that got really frustrating. But the adaptation from book to movie went pretty decent. Angelina Jolie didn't do a whole lot but let me see her animated self half naked. It didn't add to the movie at all. It all just turned out pretty mediocre.

disappointed.the curse passing from king to the other was also lame and insipid. would have been better if they followed the original legend. don't really like the way movies twist legends to suit them.. jolie did well for her role. the movie was a little bit boring, the effects weren't that good. didn't really look human. great try though

Rober Zemekis returns in this CGI past over flick where actors were painted over via computer and placed in a Norse world a long, long time ago. Beowulf is the hero to a small village when he slays a monster, but the monster's enchantress mother is after him.

Robert Zemeckis is one of my favorite directors; Back to the Future, Forest Gump, Contact, all classics. He's been pushing the visual effects envelope for most of his career, from mixing animation with live action in Who Framed Roger Rabbit? to being one of the first filmmakers to use CG to create realistic effects in Forrest Gump. It makes sense that computer-generated films are at the top of the effects heap, that he moved into that arena. I wasn't that big of a fan of The Polar Express, it had it's moments, and I think it's not a bad film for kids; but as a Zemeckis film, I'd consider it one of his lesser ones.

The reviews for Beowulf were fairly mixed, so I wasn't sure what I was getting into. But almost instantly I liked it more than Polar Express, the characters looked much more realistic, not as dead in the eyes, yet they're still a bit strange, because he's trying to create realistic looking humans, and they're not quite there yet. Give it another 10 years and it'll be hard to tell the difference. Stylized characters work much better in animation, and I really loved the tortured monster look they gave Beowulf's nemesis Grendel, and the dragon Beowulf fights at the end, may just be the coolest looking dragon yet created for film. At first it was weird to watch a digital Anthony Hopkins, John Malkovich, Angelina Jolie and so on; but they still give great performances and the effect grew on me as the film went on.

I saw an excellent Beowulf film about a year back called Beowulf and Grendel, that created a realistic feel out of the epic myth. Zemeckis' Beowulf tries no such thing, going full out with the fantasy trappings; including immortal witches, dragons, sea monsters and deadly curses. The film is a visual feast, full of grand sweeping camera moves impossible in live-action and beautiful locations from the wide-open-ocean to dank-caves. I was also pleasantly surprised by how violent the film is, bodies torn asunder, head's bitten off, limbs removed, and swords plunged, the digital blood flows freely. The film's battles are all pretty epic; I think that any fan of Lord of the Rings would appreciate this film.

The story is really nicely told as well. The history for why Grendel is so pissed, ties in nicely with what happens to Beowulf; really taking the idea of those who forget the past are doomed to repeat it to a whole new incestuous level. Beowulf is an incredible hero, conquering everything that stands in his path, but also a very tragic and flawed character; you get to see him from a young brash fighter, to an old weary king. You feel sorry for the monster Grendel, he's portrayed wonderfully by Crispin Glover, who specializes in tortured souls. Most of the characters are rounded out nicely.

I'm surprised that Beowulf didn't receive higher praise. It's a slightly-flawed film, but a highly entertaining and excellently made one; creating a beautiful new world out of this ancient poem. I think as more people see it on video, especially the kids that grow up with it, will love it, and it may go down as a minor classic. I look forward to seeing what Zemeckis will get up to next, it looks like he's animating another classic story with A Christmas Carol; live action films has lost one of their greats, but computer animation has a new master.

Ironically, Beowulf the film, like Beowulf the character, finds its undoing in its pretentiousness. It takes itself far too seriously when it is, in reality, just a glorified cartoon. This results in a lot of unintentionally funny moments. The animation is nothing short of creepy, with characters who look less like living humans and more like robotic wax mannequins standing in for humans. The story is timeless, but, unfortunately, the movie will not be.

Didn't realise this was all CGI animation, From start it gave the impression i was watching a kids movie, cant really see why they had to animate it all, most of it could have been real with CGI added in like most movies.... Great story line but the atmosphe the CGI created made the film un-enjoyable even though at times it did look real.

Umm.. this movie was... interesting. It's not that I didn't like the movie, the movie was really good. It's more like I don't like the actual legend of Beowulf. I didn't like how it skipped a bunch of years to when he was old. But again thats just the legend

The special and animated effects were amazing !
I Looooved the background score, Alan Silvestri is a genius and the ending song "a hero comes home" is just fantastic.
The movie was intereteing but one cannot avoid the "like" or "dislike" option.. as for me, too bad, i ahte beowulf's character so all the hero stuff i was like "WTH" he is nothing and he is a liar...
The ending.. left up to our imagination ?
This is a must see at least one time in your life.

Good concept lost inside a video game world. Seriously, some of the scenes felt choppy. I don't get why they could not have just made this in live action. Instead we get this gory, but restrained version.

Bit amazed that this movie had such a strong cast. But the script is nothing while the animation is worth watching. My expectations were exceeded.

Filmed in motion capture and based on an Old English epic poem. Directed by Robert Zemeckis, with a great cast.

Not everyone likes motion capture but as for myself, I have no problems getting into this visual style. Most can agree, regardless, that the camera angles are Great!

Didn't live up to my hype. It wasn't bad, but I just didn't enjoy it like one enjoys a good action film.

I am wondering whether or not the way the movie ended whether or not there could be another sequel? Like discovering his mistress was pregnant with his son.

It's a pretty bad movie. But still fun, since it's finally an "adult" 3D film. The visuals though aren't that great, about 5 seconds looked really awesome, other than that it was an ok cgi film. Besides that the score by Alan Silvestri is awesome and the movie title song is the best since years. Finally a really great old school Hollywood song.

This movie wasn't my favourite for the year, but it was one of the more unusual. The beginning of the film was slow, but I felt it finished on a high, with the dragon scene. I must also give it thumbs up for using most of the actors real appearences in CGI, which was also well done.
