The movie of my childhood...! My dad made me love such films and I watched it innumerable times... Jodie Foster trying to contact aliens, doing her best to get accepted on a space journey and finally... Really talking with Vega creatures? Or just having visions inside her mind, caused by an unfortunate accident? I love it for this unsolved ending. Although it's obvious she was on Vega, isn't it? ;)

Cool Sci-Fi, but a bit to disjointed for my liking. Would have made a better mini-series, allowing for the exploraton of the movies themes in greater detail. Great cast, Excellent performnces.

intersting. the whole thing about travelling in space was so unrealistic. but that would kinda be cool to be a scientist.

Jody Foster and Matthew McConehey(sp?) SETI-search for extraterrestrial intelligence, finally we Earthlings make contact! Exciting, based on the novel by Carl Sagan.

Good story to show case Foster's acting, but as a sci-fi movie, it fell short for me. The long-awaited alien encounter was sweet and benign enough for Disney. Otherwise, John Hurt and James Woods gave good performances.

Robert Zemekis takes the complex Cosmos inspired Carl Sagan story, Contact, and turns it into a pale farce of what could have been an epic space opera about the first contact of humans and aliens. Jodie Foster plays a SETI woman who battles hardball politics and evil tycoons to get ot where she is, only to have the biggest letdown of anyone in movie history, to be denied that which was obvious to the audience, proof of alien life out there. Incidentally, this is not what happened in the book! In the book, the male lead actually does meet the alien and sends a message back, thanking them for their gift. Not sure why Zemekis chose not to go with the happy ending in the book. Instead, he goes for shmaltzy peekaboo dreck when Foster meets the fantastic alien, and it morphs into her long lost Daddy! What the Hell? Yep, that's what happens. Not from the book, either. Then Daddy alien makes it impossible for the bigwigs funding Foster's little day trip to realize she actually went where no one has ever been, and crossed the light years to meet the alien. It gets 2 stars for being cool up until the end. Yes, we get that it's about her father's radio, but does it have to be her Father? Sheesh!

This film desperately needed Jodie Foster in it, as it was a pretty dull film otherwise. Parts were intriguing and there is some great footage of the Universe, but the actual storyline really wasn?t that great and despite not being much of a fan of Sci-fi, I was expecting it to be a little more Sci-fi than it turned out to be.

interesting concept done very well..it does get a bit bogged down wit hthe politics..but the special efx and the scene where Foster meets her father is very touching! Its time well spent watching this!

I loved this movie. It has a strong intelligent women as the lead. it shows worm holes and a fanciful reality. Dealing with the politics in science looks difficult.

An interesting concept. It will leave you thinking about many aspects of life and the true meaning and value of our existence in this Universe, including the relevance of the concept of time, past and present. Way to go, Zemeckis! That brain of yours still works!

Pretty good. McConaughey really didn't need to be in this. What a waste... especially knowing what we know now about Jodie. Funny role for the typically semi-evil David Morse.

Is there life out there or is it just a big waste of space? Touchy question. Decide for yourself. Great film.

Brilliant. A realistic view of how we would encounter intelligent live in another part of the universe. Jody Foster is again fantastic in this film.

Good science fiction movie mixed with a bit of religious faith. The two together sound odd but it was quite unique and very well done.

I watched this when I was younger and was very intrigued by the idea of space travel. It is something I still haven't outgrown.

Very undecided movie. The director couldn't decide what path he was going to follow in the story of this film; whether it was going to be purely scientific or more of the reincarnation bit.

The very first time I saw this movie I cried like a baby when she finally got to go, and literally prayed everything would "go". I watched this movie, knowing nothing about the plot/storyline and was very moved and am still very moved every time I watch it. I think the entire cast was wonderful.

I love this movie, My cup of tea. The last half hour or so when she finally gets to go is great. There just are not enough of those beautiful space scenes though:( I have seen this movie several times now and although Jodie isnt my favourite actress she does a good job on this. If you like being awestruck by 'far out' stuff then I would recommend this.

this board is quite lonely... how bout fill it some comments with the last 30 minutes of the movie, the much debated "oh that ruined the movie" or "wow that really tied it all together". personally it's the part of the movie where you stop and look at how people respond to change and new ideas in reality. its amazing how ironic it is, showing us how we would react and then you yourself denying it, and in the end makes you face the question of science vs religion with a new perspective.
