The beginning is simply one of the most memorable scenes in all cinema movies. It achieves what most horror movies do not. Its able to lure the viewer thinking that the beginning is going to be all ok and yet we find out, were dead wrong. I especially loved how it turned out with the pink writing and lovely music of "Senza Fine". Later on in present day our characters get set on a boat presumably been missing since 1962. rest coming soon...off to bed :)

I was really excited by this idea, because it is after all a neat idea. The opening scenes were deliciously horrific, and really piqued my interest. However, the rest of the movie was not nearly as captivating as it could be. The overall idea here was great, and it could have been a fantastic movie, but certain elements in the plotline failed to keep me entertained at the highest level. So it could have been great, but ended up just being slightly disappointing. See if it you are interested, skip it if you aren't.

Good movie. It gave me some shocking moments while watching this movie.
The second time I watched it, those moments still did frighten me.

    Not bad at all.

Know the part where they're showing how all the people died and they show how the hook went through the womans jaw?
Oh yeah, I love that part. ;) (Y)

This is a good not scary but suspenceful movie. It is when a ship is standing there for no reason and people go look at it and crazy things happen. There is a lot of blood and spirits.

Had to watch it a few times but now I love it. It has my favorite actress (E. Browning), Mudvayne for the theme song, awsome death scenes, and one surprising twist.

Salvagers discover the Antonia Graza, an Italian luxury liner with a dark secret. Missing since 1962 and floating adrift, the Antonia Graza is not uninhabited. Before they can begin repairing and towing the ghost ship towards harbor, the crew encounters a series of bizarre ocurrences, and the group becomes trapped inside the ship.

Too bad couldn't trade Margulies with Karl Urban characters in the film. A little tired of the butch female character saving the day in horror films. Can't the funny guy be the survivor? Beginning scenes still freak me a little, and Desmond Harrington, who always did look a little sickly, plays a pretty good villain.

I'm not sure if Ghost Ship was an alarmingly bad movie, or a horribly botched abortion. Either way, it was horrifying, unnecessary and I don't approve.

Essentially this is a ghost story, a haunted house, set on a boat. What makes it work so well is that the acting and direction are spot on. You give a damn about the people aboard the sub and that makes things all the worse as the secrets the boat holds are revealed. And David Twohy did an amazing job of direction, never revealing too much and never pushing too hard, a thing most directors never get. They think they have to ram the ghosts and ghoulies down your throat to prove they are there when half the time sound effects and shadows do the trick rather well. The magic of the movie, for me, really comes together during the very end shots, which serve as sort of a grim echo to all that has come before and serves to close the film in a very fitting tone.
The film follows a kooky ship salvaging crew fresh off their latest job and on the verge of finally going home after an extended stay at sea. But as they are celebrating the end of their job a stranger appears to offer them the chance at salvaging an errant ship he has discovered floating blindly far away from other shipping traffic. Seeing an easy way to make some extra cash, the crew signs on, some reluctantly so, and is quickly off to find their newest floating money sign. Only what they find, dum, dum, dum is no ordinary ship but is in fact an Italian liner that had disappeared without a trace in the sixties, and what our intrepid salvagers have found (or been lead to) is literally a goldmine, but alas at what cost?
So in a sea of poor imitations (get it?), Ghost Ship will seem like yet another in the line of terrifying trips to hell and back and in a way it still is ... there's only so much you can do with the horror genre that hasn't been seen before. But thankfully this story enjoys the traditional element of slow reveals to help keep it afloat long enough for you to enjoy the visual effects if not the quite beautifully disgusting images that adorn the screen as well. Which is awesome, cause yes, I'm a freak.
It's not the most inspiring of plots, but Ghost Ship still has some redeeming features of its own that may warrant a space in your DVD collection, if only in the segment labelled the "guilty pleasure zone". Even when the mystery itself has been solved first time around, it's still a pleasure to unravel the layers every so often when you want a good mix of visuals, aural excitement and storyline.
