A savage team of a tug is ready to rest after the transportation of a platform. When they are celebrating in a bar, the plane pilot Jack Ferriman (Desmond Harrington) offers them the chance of rescuing a passenger vessel vanished in the oceans in 1962. Captain Sean Murphy (Gabriel Byrne), Maureen Epps (Julianna Margulies), Munder (Karl Urban), Dodger (Ron Eldard) tempted by the possibility of a great reward, decides to risk one more rescue operation before going home. Their greed leads them, of course, to a ghost ship, where they are spooked and threatened by ghosts. Katie (Emily Browning), shows Epps what happened to the passengers and crew during the voyage in 1962. A horrible unrevealed secret will haunt the rest of the crew. The background history here was errie and disturbing, there was a definite sense of panic here. The story is very linear and lacks real depth or complexity, but the film has a strong enough cast and direction to make it interesting and enjoyable to watch. The ship itself is frightening in its own right and cast of characters that come alive with it are rather interesting. The only issue I have with the film as a whole is that the ending leaves you to think they can be a sequel.

this movie was pretty much horrible... but the beginning is unforgettable

A terrible tragedy befell a luxury liner in the 1920's. Now the abandoned "Ghost Ship" is found and boarded, with evil ghosts to contend with. I couldn't get into this movie. I preferred the similar 1980 film "Death Ship" which was more effective.

I loved it! How can you not like something that happened in the middle of nowhere and happens over and over again. There is no stopping the timeline!
-
Not a bad storyline and the FX are pretty good. all in all, i enjoyed this movie.

Watching this movie is the equivalent to listening to New Metal all day. You are just bored and cant believe people like it.
-
Oh my gosh the best opening ever. People getting their heads chopped off. Then down hill from there.

This is a classic, B grade, straight to dvd, tucked away in the weekly section, bargain bin horror movie. It's exactly the kind of movie the t.v throws on at midnight on a weekday. It does have alot of cool violence, the opening scene is one of those abnormally awesome gore sequences that you will remember for a long time, but thats about the only thing I can really credit to this movie. The genre and feeling of the movie is not consistent. One minute it will be playing hard rock and then it switches to sombre mystery in a matter of seconds. It's not all bad though, there is a very pretty ending sequence, a very pretty french female ghost, and pretty disgusting, yet funny scene with maggots. Onbe minute it's cool. The next, it sucks, so dont be suprised when you find yourself with only half a grin on your face at the end of it.

Ghost Ship
Directed by: Steve Beck
"I've seen strange things happen in the strait, but I know something else, if the sea gives you an opportunity, you take it.
These Italian liners, ya know, they couldn't compete for speed, so they built these floating art palaces instead."
Captain Murphy (Gabriel Byrne) and his crew of sea salvagers seems to have struck gold when they discover that the ship Hugh Ferriman (an airforce pilot who 'spotted' the ship, played by Desmond Harrington) was pertaining to was the one and only Antonia Graza, an Italian Luxury Ocean Liner that was believed to be lost to the sea since May 1962.
Maureen thinks shes starting to loose her mind, as she thought she saw a kid aboard the Graza, and is consoled by Ferriman that she just needs some rest for the night. The salvagers had been planning on how to bring the boat to port until they started having problems with their own vessel, the Tugboat Warrior. .
What happens next is a series of alternating luck and mishap, as the crew goes deeper into the bowels of the Antonio Graza, it slowly reveals its secrets to its new guests.

No matter how many times I watch this I still cant get my eyes off the screen! I just love everything about it! The cast, the story, the plot, the acting, the soundtrack, everything! MWAH!

Ghost Ship (2002) is an exceptional horror film from Steve Beck, who previously directed the remake of Thirteen Ghosts.
The movie "Ghost Ship" starts out with a beautiful musical and dancing sequence on the Italian luxury liner "Antonia Graza" sailing off the cost of Labrador in May 1962.
For a moment you think that your watching something like an episode from the TV show "The Love Boat" instead of a horror movie. Then all of a sudden without warning your hit with one of the bloodiest and grisliest scenes in motion picture history. The movie then goes forward to 2002 where a salvage crew headed by Captain Murphy, Gabriel Byrne, is approached by a pilot from the Canadian Arctic Patrol Jack Ferriman, Desmond Harrington. Capt. Murphy is told about a huge ship that Ferriman photographed in the Bering Sea recently and if he's interested in finding it.
Captain Murphy and Ferriman come to an agreement for a 90/10 split, 90% for Murphy and the crew of his boat the "Arctic Warrior" and 10% for Ferriman, with him coming along, in whatever they find on the ship. Reaching the ship Captain Murphy realizes that it's the long lost Italian Ocean Liner "Antonia Graza". As Murphy's crew enters the ship they slowly begin to sense that it's haunted as it slowly comes to life with it's long dead crew and passengers. -
Pretty dull movie. It was a bit interesting but nothing to go crazy for. Had so cool parts. Especially the beginning, your jaw will drop. Mine did, it was scary to look at, at first but then you'll start to laugh afterwards.

Well...this wasn't very fun. Very slow movie. not much happening. And there was like one scene with the lights on...I was a little unsure if colors existed in this movie. too dark
-
The opening scene was disturbingly awsome with all those people getting torn apart. But from that point the movie soon goes into you'r typical brainless horror movie moments that fail to scare. This movie is only to be watched during an afternoon or night if you just want to pass some time.

How this film managed to lure such a cast of pretty decent names into its clutches is beyond me. While the main idea isn't all that bad and the first 5 minutes wonderfully disturbing the movie gets worse with every minute. The crew exploring the ghost shop dies one after the other in rather unspectacular and shrug-worthy ways, the only reason to even remotely care about these characters is because their actors played rather interesting people in other movies or shows. All that happens in such an unexciting and not even remotely scary way turning the mediocre special effects into one of the film's lesser problems. The solution to the mystery is presented in exactly the same "by the way" attitude as the deaths occur. By the time of the incredibly lame "showdown" and solution you just want it to be over. Lame!

Didn't enjoy this one much. A bit too gory for me. I didn't even watch the end of it. maybe that's why i didn't really understand the storyline much

Crap writing meets dull direction and a waste of time. Why would you want to watch this, even the graphic sucks. Ooh, I'm clever a ship with a superimposed scull.. Ooh its scary..
